Mary Kilvert Designer Feature:

About Mary Kilvert:

My name is Mary Kilvert and I graduated with an illustration degree from Kingston University in 2004. I took a year out to travel after graduating and have been working as an illustrator since. I started making products to sell at craft fairs and through my website 3 years ago.

Inspirations:

I love animals and their quirky characters and I also love creating illustrations inspired by fairytales and children's stories. I get a lot of my inspiration from visits to the V&A. I like to work with pattern and creating decorative work.

Best Sellers:

One of my best selling prints is called Colourful Sheep, which is based on a children's book I have written. I experimented with printing the image onto fabric and making it into cushions, which have been one of my best selling items.

We Make Christmas:

I will be selling new prints that I have recently been working on. I will also be selling my cards, badges, pocket mirrors, cushions and I will also have some new t-towel designs on sale.

A fashion design graduate from Nottingham Trent University has recently turned her hand to becoming an accessories designer. My brand "Dot your T's and cross your I's" focuses on introducing a playful theme into each product and the bold colour palette and handmade pompom accessories emphasises the fun element.

Handmade pom pom accessories and hair bands in various colours, using fabrics such as silk (from vintage scarf’s), leather and suede.

Eva Sonaike Designer Feature:

About Eva Sonaike:

The London-based home furnishings and accessories label Eva Sonaike was first launched by Eva Sonaike in 2009.

Eva, who was born in Germany and is of Nigerian origin, has taken the best elements of those two cultures to inspire her designs. She trained in Journalism at the London College of Printing before working as a TV producer/director for the cult youth and travel programme “urbanation”.

In 2003 she became Deputy Editor of the fashion magazine BOLZ, whilst successfully freelancing as trend reporter, fashion consultant and interior stylist. In 2005 Eva acquired an MA in Fashion Journalism from the London College of Fashion, where she specialised in contemporary African fashion and design. In 2006 Eva became UK Fashion Editor of Hubert Burda Media, which publishes German Elle, Instyle and Focus, amongst other titles.

Inspirations:

The idea for her cushions and accessories label came from Eva’s growing up with the vibrancy and colours of West African clothing culture and the antique and retro furnishings of continental Europe – a potent combination that has led to the unique and distinctive style of her design.

Best Sellers:

Our key pieces from the Ikoyi collection Didara, Wura and Ewe. These three styles were the first cushions I made. The colours and vibe represent what my label is about: African chic with a touch of British understatement.

Our three shopper bags Faji, Orun and Alade. Colourful and bold they make an impact wherever you go!

We Make Christmas:

We will sell our colourful and bold wax print cushions, notebooks and shopper bags, as well as a new range of hand-woven silk ‘aso-oke’ (traditional Nigerian cloth) cushions.
